Co-Director

Kristen Harknett is a Professor of Sociology in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. She is co-director of The Shift Project.

Her research focuses on the connections between social contexts – work, family, the economy, and public policies – and the health and wellbeing of individuals and populations. By shedding light on these connections, her research identifies avenues for improving population health and well-being and for reducing stark health inequalities across class, race/ethnic, and gender groups. Her work on The Shift Project focuses on workplaces as sites of inequality and disadvantage, but also as sites for learning about best practices and highlighting opportunities for change.
