Shift Co-Directors Daniel Schneider and Kristen Harknett shared findings from five recent Shift working papers at a panel hosted by the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, the Center for Popular Democracy, United for Respect, and the National Women’s Law Center.
The event coincided with Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) and Senator Elizabeth Warren‘s (D-MA) announcement that they are reintroducing the Schedules That Work Act, a bill that would require employers to provide two weeks’ advance notice and compensate workers for last-minute schedule changes. These provisions reflect research from The Shift Project showing that less stable and predictable schedules are associated with poorer health outcomes for workers, more material hardship for families, difficulty arranging child care, child behavioral issues, and increased job turnover.
