Co-Director Kristen Harknett is a Professor of Sociology in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. She is co-director of The Shift Project. Her research focuses on the connections between social contexts – work, family, the economy, and public policies – and the health and wellbeing of individuals and populations. By shedding light on these connections, her research identifies avenues for improving population health and well-being and for reducing stark health inequalities across class, race/ethnic, and gender groups. Daniel Schneider

Co-Director Daniel Schneider is the Malcolm Wiener Professor of Social Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and Professor of Sociology in FAS at Harvard University.  He is co-director of The Shift Project.  His research is at the intersection of inequality, labor, social demography, and social policy. His current work examines the contours and consequences of precarious working conditions and leverages novel survey data and stakeholder partnerships to understand how labor standards and high-road company practices can improve working conditions, economic security, and the wellbeing of workers and their families.
