External Data Resources

Shift Project research draws on various external data sources that complement our original survey data. These sources provide external data that help us benchmark our sample, construct weights, and enrich our analyses.

Policy Data Sources

The Shift project compiled a labor policy database that includes policies affecting labor conditions and requirements across U.S. states and counties from 2013 to 2022. It provides valuable insights into the evolving policy landscape and serves as a resource for labor and policy researchers interested in how these environments influence working conditions.

Compiling the policy database involved drawing on external databases that had compiled some of the information we were seeking and supplementing this information with detailed searches of state and municipal codes. The following list provides sources and recommended citations for external databases (link).
