The Shift Project presented new research at the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) 30th Annual Conference on January 18, 2026, in Washington, DC, as part of the session “Transforming Work: Policy, Organizing, and Labor Conditions Across Sectors.” The presentation, titled “The Prevalence and Consequences of Punitive Time and Attendance Policies in the Food and Retail Industries,” highlighted work by Meredith Slopen, Kess Ballentine, Kristen Harknett, and Danny Schneider on how strict time and attendance rules shape job quality and worker well-being in the service sector.
